What happens when two artists from completely different corners of the world come together musically? In the case of Trinidadian singer Nisha Bissambhar and Dutch artist Sandesh Sewdien, the answer is Gulari Ke Phool – a modern refix of a classic that connects generations.
From Karma to Collaboration
The foundation for this collaboration was laid when Sandesh previously recorded a song with Ravi B, Nisha’s brother. “I got to know Nisha personally during joint performances with their band Karma.” Sandesh explains. “There was an instant connection with her and her whole team. It felt very natural to start a project together afterward.”
For Nisha, the connection was also immediate. “Sandesh has a vibe that works perfectly with my team.” she says. “After his collaboration with Ravi, everything just fell into place – it was pure fire.”
Why Gulari Ke Phool?
When choosing the right song to work on together, the artists quickly settled on Gulari Ke Phool. “I wanted to pick a song that’s familiar to both the Trinidadian and Dutch communities.” Sandesh explains. “And this one stood out immediately. We were both instantly convinced.”
According to Nisha, the song has always been a fan favorite. “So many people love this track.” she says. “We both gave an immediate ‘yes’ to doing it together.”
Technology Bridges the Distance
Although the artists live thousands of kilometers apart, distance was no obstacle. Sandesh recorded his vocals in the Netherlands and sent them to Trinidad, where Nisha laid down her parts at Basslab Studio, run by her brother Anil B.
“With technology, anything is possible.” Nisha says. “Sandesh sent over his vocals, I recorded mine in Trinidad, and everything was mixed and mastered in the same studio. It came together beautifully.”
Sandesh also reflects positively on the process. “It’s amazing to see how our musical worlds blended so seamlessly despite the physical distance.”

One Chance, One Night
The video was filmed at Rode Loper Events in Hoofddorp – but it didn’t come easy. “Nisha landed in the Netherlands after a 14-hour flight, checked into her hotel, did a radio and TV interview, and then we went straight to the venue.” Sandesh recalls.
“We started shooting at 12:30 a.m. and wrapped up at 5:00 a.m.” he continues. “She had a show the next day and had to head straight to the airport afterward. We had one night – everything had to be perfect.”
A Production Fueled by Passion
The video was a true team effort: Dhiran Paltan (Paltan Productions) and Djai Hoeblal (DS Vidz) handled the visuals, and Raayas Wedding & Events provided the stunning décor. The final sound was crafted in Trinidad by Anil B.
“It was really a collaborative effort.” says Nisha. “Everyone involved was already familiar with us or had worked with us before, which made everything feel comfortable.”
Culture as a Core Value
For both Nisha and Sandesh, culture isn’t just important – it’s the foundation of their music. “Our mission is to preserve our culture despite modern influences.” says Sandesh. “This collaboration is about giving new life to an old favorite, making it appealing for the younger generation.”
Nisha adds, “The way we refixed the song shows that we can give a modern twist to a traditional favorite. It’s our vibe, woven into a production that speaks across generations.”
Global Love and Support
Gulari Ke Phool premiered in May 2024, and the feedback has been overwhelming. “Even fans from South Africa and India have reached out.” says Nisha. “They love the energy, the modern touch, and the message of unity the video conveys.”
Sandesh agrees. “I get messages and videos every day of people – even kids – dancing to it. That’s what it’s all about.”
What’s Next?
Both artists are currently working on solo projects, but a follow-up to Gulari Ke Phool seems likely. “Based on the success of this collab, I can definitely see a part two happening.” says Nisha.
Sandesh fully agrees: “We’re just getting started. This was only the beginning.”
